This popped into my neglected Google Reader last week and only got to take a look at it now. Very interesting concept, looking forward to seeing what the next iteration produces.
It's not just for Xmas, it's damned useful all year round. I've been playing with this for the last hour or so and find it quite lovely for creating an online wishlist of things I might like for say Xmas, birthday etc or even just giving inspiration to gift buyers of the kind of thing I like or where I like to shop.
Full review will pop up later on on LouderVoice but so far very impressed, even have a set of buttons including 'Add to BoxedUp' that you can attach to your browser so you can pop anything in there wherever you happen to browse.

A really interesting project undertaken by Kev & his colleagues at the Copenhagen Institute of Interaction Design. You can see & read more about the interface & work leading up to it on his blog.
Surely the Independent could have chosen better examples than this - "Herbal Science" at CIT and "Wine & Beverage Management" at Tallaght IT?
I think most students cover both of these in a less formal fashion over their college education anyway without taking up a diploma in it.
As regards the shortage of students taking up courses in engineering and computing, well I believe that it's a direct result of what students experience in the school system. Engineering is not one of the most commonly offered subjects in schools and computer (to my knowledge) is only taught on a "need-to-know" basis and not as an exam subject.
Time to go back to the grass-roots of the system and see what's really going on.
Browsing about the RTE Olympic site (which I think is quite lovely despite the rubbish streaming quality of the videos in the archive) my attention was grabbed by the somewhat postcard-perfect if not quaint looking photo of the Irish Olympic equestrian team in their gear (above).
I launched up the photo gallery to have a gander at the rest of our athletes and boy did I get some surprise. I'm still trying to decide if it was a pleasant one or not.
If you're in a 'sensetive' work environment, maybe keep this off your screen or pull your monitor down under your desk. Let me know what you think.
