Blog Awards promo hotel rate

I emailed the Cork International Airport Hotel earlier to see if the promo rate mentioned on the awards site is applicable to online bookings. Here's the response I got from the folk down there, which may/may not be helpful to you:

"The rate available for that function is €55per person sharing or €100 for the single room, including breakfast. The rates available in the internet can be cheaper if you book an internet saver rate, but be aware that is charged immediately, and is NOT REFUNDABLE."

If you want to get in touch with them they're at 021 454 9800, info@corkinternationalairporthotel.com or http://www.corkinternationalairporthotel.com/

On a side note, they seem to have changed their 'Contact' button on the main menu to 'Apartments' - some sweet pads available for those liking a longer stay and some extra space. Looking forward to staying there (the hotel that is :))!

Fonts, Macs & forgotten PC users

PC:

Mac:

This is a bug/pain I've noticed here and there recently, most recently today on the ICAD site, which is quite a beautiful site when viewed on a Mac, but not so much on PC. Mac-loving designers/developers - spare a thought for us lowly PC users & please make sure you do some testing on a PC.
I sent ICAD a polite email and screenshot explaining I can't really read the website text without bumping up my font size - here's hoping they don't think I'm a total pain in the gizzard (or something a little worse ending in 'hole'). Or maybe I'm as much of a knobhead as the guy who validates other folks HTML? Time will tell.

IE6 - who's still using it?

Every time I run into an annoying, time consuming and downright stupid bug while testing in IE6, I check the W3C's browser stats to see if by some miracle it's usage dropped enough for me to delete it from my PC forever. Today was one of those days and as you can see from the above, around a quarter of internet users are still surfing the information super-highway on IE6. Sadly, this is not enough for me to kick it off the list of browsers I need to test in on a daily basis, in fact, by looking back over previous stats, IE6 usage has dropped by a steady average of 10% per annum, so that would mean I and my fellow web developers are stuck with the fugly beast for about another 2 years.

Chrome and IE8 releases will hopefully catalyse the demise of the thorn in my side further. Until then, we'll just have to keep the stress balls, gum, coffee and whatever other vice gets you through the pain that is king of standards non-compliancy and general stupid behaviour, IE6.

Those stats are here.

jQuery News Ticker

A bit more techy than usual but thought this was worth posting - little news ticker jQuery plugin I just used for a project at work - very basic but it works, unlike many of the others.

Site doesn't look the best but the goods are....good! http://www.texotela.co.uk/code/jquery/newsticker/
